Biography

Derrick Leon Green was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in the United States, on January 20, 1971. His career became strongly connected to Brazilian music when he became the vocalist of the renowned band Sepultura in 1998, replacing founding member Max Cavalera after sending a videotape in 1997. Since then, he has established himself as the group's main voice, recording several studio albums and actively participating in the national and international metal scene.

In addition to his acclaimed career in Sepultura, Derrick expanded his collaborations in Brazilian music by participating in works by other prominent bands from the national scene. He recorded guest appearances on tracks by groups such as O Rappa, on the album Instinto Coletivo, and Raimundos, on the album Kavookavala. He also fronted the project Música Diablo, reinforcing his versatility within the Brazilian heavy scene before leaving the group in 2011 due to commitments with his main band.

Despite his North American origin and strong influences from United States hardcore punk, such as the band Bad Brains, Derrick deeply integrated into Sepultura's identity. The band members themselves have always emphasized the genuinely Brazilian character of the band, keeping the group as one of the country's greatest metal exponents with the foreign musician on vocals.
