Biography

Dinho Gonçalves is a highly respected Brazilian percussionist and drummer with a career spanning approximately five decades. He honed his skills and knowledge by living and studying music in various countries, including the United States, Africa, Cuba, and India, always seeking to learn and disseminate diverse musical cultures. Gonçalves is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he studied composition, arrangement, and conducting. His extensive experience includes collaborations with numerous renowned Brazilian artists such as Gal Costa, Elba Ramalho, Rita Lee, Sá e Guarabira, Johny Alf, and Hermeto Pascoal.

Beyond his work in Brazil, Gonçalves has also performed internationally with artists like Paul Winter and Kenny Burrell. He is a founding member of the percussion and voice group "Woyekê" and has been an integral part of the Banda Havana Brasil for over 15 years. As a drummer, he formed the "Quinteto Dinho & Cia," which performs a variety of rhythms and has conducted workshops and recordings in Argentina, Italy, Cuba, and Germany. Currently, he shares his expertise by teaching drums and percussion at the Souza Lima Conservatory and the "Ritmus" Cultural Center in São Paulo.

His dedication to music education and his continuous artistic development have made Dinho Gonçalves a significant figure in the Brazilian music scene. His multifaceted career as a performer, educator, and cultural disseminator reflects a deep commitment to the art form and its diverse expressions.
