Biography

Horondino José da Silva, better known as Dino 7 Cordas, was a pioneering Brazilian classical and acoustic guitarist. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he became widely recognized as the single greatest influence on the seven-string guitar, developing unique techniques and language that defined the instrument in Brazilian popular music. Throughout his illustrious career, he established himself as a master of choro and samba, anchoring numerous legendary studio recordings and radio broadcasts.

Dino began his musical journey in childhood, initially playing the mandolin before transitioning to the guitar under the inspiration of his amateur musician father. His professional breakthrough came in 1937 when he joined the famed ensemble led by flutist Benedito Lacerda. Alongside fellow guitarist Jayme Florence, known as Meira, Dino formed an iconic guitar duo that defined the accompaniment style for generations of artists. His mastery allowed him to collaborate extensively with musical giants such as Pixinguinha, expanding the boundaries of traditional instrumental music in Brazil.

In addition to his prowess as an accompanist and arranger, Dino contributed significantly as a composer and educator, mentoring legendary musicians like Raphael Rabello. He famously arranged and recorded Cartola's debut album in 1974, leaving an indelible mark on the history of samba and MPB. Dino 7 Cordas passed away in Rio de Janeiro in 2006, leaving behind a profound legacy that continues to inspire Brazilian guitarists.
