Biography

Diogo Mendonça Nogueira was born in Rio de Janeiro on April 26, 1981. The son of renowned musician João Nogueira, he grew up immersed in traditional samba circles, although he began his professional career in football, playing for Cruzeiro de Porto Alegre before a knee injury ended his career on the pitch. Back in his hometown, he reconnected with music, formed his own band, and signed a record deal with EMI, establishing himself nationally as one of the great exponents of the genre.

As a singer and songwriter, Diogo has consolidated a highly prominent trajectory in Brazilian music, releasing several critically acclaimed and publicly beloved studio albums and live projects. He achieved a historic milestone at Portela by securing a samba-enredo on the avenue for the 2008 Carnival, surpassing a mark his father had not reached in the school's composer wing. In addition to his recording career, which has earned him major awards such as the Latin Grammy, he has also stood out as a television presenter hosting the show Samba na Gamboa, broadcast by public networks.

Throughout his artistic journey, Diogo Nogueira has collaborated and shared the stage with various exponents of national culture, such as Hamilton de Holanda and his own father, João Nogueira. His work has transitioned naturally between samba de raiz, pagode, and MPB, keeping the tradition of Rio de Janeiro's music alive and renewing the genre's repertoire with his own compositions and striking interpretations.
