Biography
João Vittor de Souza Passos, known artistically as Diomedes Chinaski, was born in Paulista and raised in the Vila do Ipsep community in Recife. The artist adopted his stage name inspired by a comic book character by Lourenço Mutarelli and the literary alter ego Henry Chinaski, created by writer Charles Bukowski. His lyrical identity stands out for its rawness and visceral portrayal of urban reality, initially establishing itself in the independent scene through the collective Chave Mestra.
The rapper's national recognition gained strong momentum in mid-2016 and 2017, a period when he established himself as one of the most influential voices in Northeastern hip hop. Diomedes frequently questioned the centralization of the music market in the Rio-São Paulo axis and the invisibility imposed on cultural producers from other regions of the country. This combative stance resulted in important milestones for the genre in Brazil, echoing the effort toward cultural decentralization that also mobilized names like Baco Exu do Blues.
One of the most emblematic moments of his career occurred in 2016, when he released the hard-hitting track "Sulicídio" alongside Baco Exu do Blues. The song functioned as a manifesto and an open critique of the hegemony of Southeast rap, sparking intense debates on the national scene and reshaping the dynamics of space for artists from outside the traditional axis. Through his sharp poetry, Diomedes Chinaski remains an undisputed reference in the consolidation of contemporary rap from Pernambuco.
