Biography
Domenico Lancellotti was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1972, the son of the renowned samba composer and singer Ivor Lancellotti. Growing up immersed in the rich musical traditions of his father's circle, Domenico developed into a versatile multi-instrumentalist, proficient in drums, percussion, and acoustic guitar. In the 1990s, he emerged as a key figure in the Rio de Janeiro independent scene with the experimental rock group Mulheres Q Dizem Sim, a project that solidified his lifelong creative partnership with musicians Moreno Veloso and Alexandre Kassin.\n\nHe is widely recognized for his work within the +2 collective (specifically the album 'Domenico + 2'), which became a defining project of modern Brazilian music by blending traditional songwriting with electronic and experimental textures. Lancellotti's collaborative reach is extensive; he is a founding member of the Orquestra Imperial big band and the percussion ensemble Os Ritmistas. He has also served as a drummer and collaborator for icons such as Caetano Veloso, Adriana Calcanhotto, and Fernanda Abreu.\n\nIn addition to his group projects, Lancellotti has established a significant solo career with albums like 'Cine Privê' and 'Serra dos Órgãos.' His solo work is noted for its sophisticated arrangements and its ability to bridge the gap between classic MPB and contemporary international sounds.
