Biography

Dorgival Dantas de Paiva was born in Olho-d'Água do Borges on January 5, 1971. Known as "The Poet" due to his repertoire focused on romantic songs, he learned to play the accordion in childhood under the tutelage of his father, beginning his public performances at age 14. Throughout his career, he was a member of the Grupo Show Terríveis de Natal and the band of the duo Sirano & Sirino, in addition to working as a producer for various forró groups during the 1990s and participating in Banda do Pirata.

In 2006, he began his solo discography with the release of the album O Homem do Coração, followed by widely acclaimed works such as Primeiro Passo and Quanto Custa. His compositions achieved enormous national projection by entering the soundtracks of Rede Globo soap operas and being interpreted by major names in Brazilian music, such as Aviões do Forró, Calcinha Preta, Flávio José, Jorge e Mateus, and Michel Teló. In 2013, he recorded his first official DVD in Fortaleza, featuring special appearances by renowned artists such as Solange Almeida, Bell Marques, and Chambinho do Acordeon.

In addition to his consolidated career as a singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist, Dorgival Dantas expanded his artistic work into cinema, joining the cast of the feature film Shaolin do Sertão. His cultural legacy and his contribution to dissemination also earned him important honors, including his appointment as tourism ambassador of Rio Grande do Norte and the bestowal of the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the State University of Rio Grande do Norte.
