Biography

Dorinha Duval, born Dorah Teixeira in São Paulo, was a multi-talented Brazilian television personality, actress, humorist, presenter, and vedette who also established a prominent career in visual arts. During the 1950s and 1960s, she gained fame working on humor and variety shows across major television networks such as TV Tupi, TV Excelsior, and TV Rio. Her trajectory in the entertainment industry eventually led her to transition into telenovelas with Rede Globo in 1969, where she memorable portrayed roles like Dulcinéia Cajazeira in O Bem-Amado and the iconic first Cuca in Sítio do Picapau Amarelo.

Throughout her career, she shared the screen with legendary figures of Brazilian culture, notably acting alongside Mazzaropi in the 1960 film As Aventuras de Pedro Malasartes. Her personal life and career took a dramatic turn in 1980 after she was convicted for the killing of her husband, advertising producer Paulo Sérgio Garcia de Alcântara. Following her release and departure from television, she dedicated her remaining decades to the visual arts, focusing on esoteric themes until her passing.

In her later years, Dorinha Duval chronicled her turbulent life experiences in her autobiography Em busca da luz, published in 2002 with the assistance of Luiz Carlos Maciel and Maria Luiza Ocampo. The memoir detailed her early hardships, her marriages including one to Daniel Filho, and her perspective on the tragic events of 1980. She remained an enduring figure in Brazilian television history, leaving behind a legacy carried forward by her daughter, actress Carla Daniel.
