Biography

Doroty Marques is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and art-educator, born in Araguari, Minas Gerais, in 1946. Sister of musicians Dércio Marques and Darlan Marques, she is recognized for her dedication to traditional roots music, folklore and Brazilian popular culture, having worked with around 150,000 children across the country throughout her career. Her artistic journey began in the 1960s, and she stood out for being one of the first women to record an independent album in Brazil, the LP "Semente", released in 1978, on the Marcus Pereira label.

Throughout her career, Doroty Marques has demonstrated a strong commitment to art as a tool for social transformation. She has developed art-education projects with children and youths in situations of social vulnerability in various Brazilian states. Her work includes the creation of popular operettas, music, dance and visual arts workshops, with the objective of promoting critical development and community organization. One of her notable works was the project "Cadê meu rio que estava aqui?", which involved public schools in environmental awareness actions and the replanting of native forest. She also collaborated on structuring public initiatives aimed at the protection of minors, such as the creation of the Secretariat for the Welfare of Minors in São Paulo, work that earned her a UN Award.

Since 2003, Doroty Marques has resided in Vila de São Jorge, in Chapada dos Veadeiros (GO), where she coordinates the project "Turma Que Faz". This project offers a space for artistic training and coexistence for children, youths and adults, promoting continuous creation processes. Her musical work includes albums such as "Semente" (1978), "Erva Cidreira" (1980) and "Criança Faz Arte" (1985). Doroty Marques is celebrated for her multifaceted contribution to Brazilian culture, integrating artistic expression, pedagogy and community mobilization.
