Dudu França, born José Eduardo França Pontes in São Paulo on April 11, 1950, is a versatile Brazilian singer, songwriter, and television presenter. He began his musical journey learning the acoustic guitar before transitioning to the drums, eventually joining the band Memphis at the age of fifteen. Throughout his career, he has explored various musical styles, including disco and gospel music.
He achieved widespread recognition during the Brazilian disco era with his 1978 hit "Grilo na Cuca," composed by Carlos Imperial. This track and other successful songs, such as "A Menina do Subúrbio" and "Emaranhado," became prominent features in several Brazilian telenovela soundtracks like Marron Glacê and Amor com Amor se Paga. In addition to his music career, he hosted the television show "Vamos Nessa" on SBT during the early 1980s and also worked as an actor.
Later in life, Dudu França transitioned to gospel music, releasing albums such as Eu Vejo a Luz in 2008 and reimagining his classic hit as "Cristo na Cuca." His enduring presence in the Brazilian entertainment scene was further highlighted by his participation in the reality television program The Voice+ in 2021.
