Biography

Dulce Maria Rossi Quental is a Brazilian singer, musician, and songwriter born in Rio de Janeiro. Growing up in a household with an extensive collection of jazz vinyls, she was influenced by the genre and initially played the alto saxophone, admiring musicians like Paul Desmond. She first rose to prominence in the early 1980s as the lead vocalist of the rock band Sempre Livre, before embarking on a solo career in the mid-1980s that blended pop, jazz, and bossa nova styles.

Throughout her career, Quental has released several notable solo albums, including her 1985 debut Délica, Voz Azul produced by Herbert Vianna, and Beleza Roubada. As a prolific songwriter, she has collaborated with numerous prominent figures in Brazilian music such as Roberto Frejat, Cazuza, Arnaldo Antunes, and Zélia Duncan, besides writing successful tracks for renowned acts like Barão Vermelho, Cidade Negra, Leila Pinheiro, and Simone. Her later works include independent literary publications and albums like Música e Maresia and Sob o Signo do Amor.
