Biography

Ederaldo Gentil Pereira was born in the city of Salvador on September 7, 1944. Before consolidating his career in music, he had a brief stint on the pitch as a player for Esporte Clube Guarany and trained at Esporte Clube Vitória.

Throughout his artistic career, he established himself as one of the main exponents of samba in Bahia. His greatest achievement as a songwriter was the work "O Ouro E A Madeira", which gained notoriety in the voice of Clara Nunes. He released five phonographic works, debuting with a 7-inch single in 1973 and with the LP "Samba, Canto Livre de um Povo" in 1975.

His last studio album, titled "Pérolas Finas", came out in 1999 as a tribute project produced by Edil Pacheco, featuring notable collaborations with national music icons such as Gilberto Gil and Elza Soares. Ederaldo Gentil passed away in his hometown on March 30, 2012, leaving an invaluable legacy to Bahian culture and traditional samba.
