Biography

Edgard José Scandurra Pereira is a renowned Brazilian singer, songwriter, guitarist, and drummer, best known as a founder and key member of the legendary rock band Ira! Born in São Paulo, he showed a passion for music from an early age, forming his first group Subúrbio in 1977. Before finding lasting success with Ira!, he played a foundational role in other prominent acts, including briefly participating in Ultraje a Rigor and drumming for the all-female punk band As Mercenárias, as well as contributing to alternative projects like Smack and Cabine C.

Throughout his prolific career, Scandurra has established himself as one of Brazil's premier guitarists, celebrated for his distinctive left-handed playing style and recognized by publications like Bizz and Rolling Stone as a monumental figure in Brazilian rock and MPB. His extensive discography spans numerous solo projects—such as Amigos Invisíveis and Benzina—alongside countless collaborations with iconic Brazilian artists like Arnaldo Antunes, Lobão, and Os Paralamas do Sucesso. He also co-founded the children's musical project Pequeno Cidadão alongside Taciana Barros, Antonio Pinto, and Arnaldo Antunes.

Even after decades in the music industry, Scandurra continues to innovate, releasing solo material crafted during quarantine and returning to the stage with the reunited Ira! His artistic output bridges the worlds of underground alternative rock and mainstream Brazilian popular music, heavily influencing generations of musicians. Alongside his musical pursuits, he is well known for his family collaborations, often performing with his son Daniel, cementing his enduring legacy in Brazilian culture.
