Biography

Edson Frederico Barbosa Cavalcante (May 7, 1948 – December 22, 2011) was a Brazilian arranger and conductor. He graduated from the National School of Music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in the 1960s and began his career at TV Globo in 1974 as the musical director for "Sandra & Miéle." He also composed soundtracks for "Malu Mulher" and "Carga Pesada," and worked for the now-defunct TV Tupi.

Frederico was known for his musical arrangements for prominent artists such as Miúcha, Toquinho, and Tom Jobim. He also performed as a musician with Vinicius de Moraes, Elis Regina, and Antônio Carlos e Jocáfi. His work extended to orchestral performances in television programs and theater productions, including "Pippin," "Evita," and "Orfeu da Conceição."

He released a solo LP titled "Edson Frederico" and contributed to albums by artists like Djavan ("Flor de Liz," 1976), Jorge Ben Jor ("Banda do Zé Pretinho"), Sarah Vaughan ("Love Brazil"), and Roberto Carlos (1983). His career spanned over four decades, leaving a significant mark on Brazilian music through his diverse contributions as a composer, arranger, and conductor.
