Edu Motorneiro was a figure in Rio de Janeiro's bohemian circles, primarily known for his involvement in an incident with the influential samba composer Ismael Silva.

In the late 1920s, a dispute arose between Silva and Motorneiro, reportedly over a woman or in defense of Silva's sister. The altercation led to Ismael Silva firing a gun at Edu Motorneiro, an event that resulted in Silva's imprisonment for two years. Despite the severity of the incident, Motorneiro survived.
