Biography

Edyr de Paiva Proença was a multifaceted artist from Pará, born in Belém on May 19, 1920. His career spanned several areas, including law, journalism, radio broadcasting, writing, and, notably, music. The son of radio pioneer Edgar Proença, founder of Rádio Clube do Pará, Edyr inherited a talent for communication and stood out as a sports announcer and writer for various media outlets in the region. His passion for music led him to compose several songs, many of them in partnership with his wife, Celeste Proença, and other artists such as Ruy Barata and João de Jesus Paes Loureiro. Some of his best-known compositions include "Amor Perfeito", "Barca da Nostalgia", and "Bom Dia, Belém", the latter recorded by renowned interpreters such as Fafá de Belém and Leila Pinheiro.

In addition to his work in radio and music, Edyr Proença also practiced law and worked as a banker. His literary vein manifested in chronicles, especially about soccer, gathered in publications such as "Coisas do Futebol". In the 1990s, he directed the Museum of Image and Sound of Pará, demonstrating his commitment to the preservation of cultural memory. His musical work was recognized in 1975 with the release of the LP "Edyr Proença", part of the "Música e Memória" series by the Federal University of Pará, and in 1994 with another LP.

Edyr Proença passed away in 1998, but his legacy endures. The artist is remembered not only for his artistic and cultural contributions, but also for his affectionate and ethical personality. The hall located on the 4th floor of Centur, at the Tancredo Neves Foundation, bears his name, serving as a space that frequently hosts art exhibitions. His influence extends to generations of communicators and musicians, who consider him a master and a great professional and human example.
