Biography

Efson, born Edison Ferreira, was a Brazilian samba singer and composer, born on December 18, 1944, in Rio de Janeiro. He passed away on November 5, 2014, at the age of 69 due to complications from pneumonia and respiratory failure.

Ferreira's musical journey began in the 1960s, and he became known for his contributions to samba music. He was a close friend of Zeca Pagodinho, and his compositions were recorded by several renowned artists, including Beth Carvalho, Alcione, and Jorge Aragão. Some of his notable songs include "Firme e forte" (co-written with Nei Lopes), "Bololô" (co-written with Paulo Vizinho and Nei Lopes), and "Hoje é dia de festa," which gave its name to Zeca Pagodinho's 1997 album.

Efson was an active participant in the samba community, often present in the lively rodas de samba in Rio de Janeiro. He was also part of "O Quintal do Pagodinho," a project that celebrated the work of Zeca Pagodinho and other samba composers. His legacy lives on through his recorded works and his impact on the Brazilian samba scene.
