Biography

Egotrip was a Brazilian pop rock band that stood out in the 1980s music scene. The group was founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1985 by renowned bassist Arthur Maia, a musician who had already accumulated experience collaborating with major MPB icons such as Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Roberto Carlos, Djavan, and Milton Nascimento. The original lineup also featured Nando Chagas, José Rubens, Francisco Frias ("Bolinha"), and Pedro Gil.

In 1987, the band released their only self-titled studio album, which soon propelled the group to national success. The track "Viagem ao Fundo do Ego" gained enormous projection after being included in the soundtrack of the soap opera Mandala, broadcast by Rede Globo. Simultaneously, the song "Kamikaze" reached the top of the charts on various radio stations across the country, consolidating the quintet's commercial prestige.

Unfortunately, Egotrip's promising trajectory was tragically interrupted at the beginning of the following decade. The ensemble ended its activities following the death of drummer Pedro Gil, son of Gilberto Gil, who was the victim of a car accident that occurred in January 1990.
