Biography

Ekanta, born Ekanta Jake Peres, is a pioneering DJ and producer in the Brazilian psytrance scene. Her career began in 1996 when she moved to the Netherlands to immerse herself in the electronic music scene, returning to Brazil with a vision to establish and grow the psytrance culture in her home country. She is widely recognized as an icon of Brazilian electronic music and a key figure in consolidating the psychedelic culture through the creation of Universo Paralello, one of the most respected psychedelic festivals globally.

Over her career spanning more than two decades, Ekanta has not only performed at major electronic music festivals worldwide but has also been instrumental in mentoring over 40 DJs and opening doors for an entire generation of artists. Her music often features a unique blend of psytrance with elements of reggae, rock 'n' roll, and other Brazilian cultural sounds, making her sets innovative and original. Her albums, such as "Raízes Eletrônicas" (2014) and "Vozes" (2021), reflect a deep connection to Brazilian and indigenous roots, incorporating sacred chants and ancestral influences into her contemporary electronic soundscapes.

Ekanta's influence extends beyond her musical productions and performances. She is credited with building the psytrance scene in Brazil and continues to be an active force, now rewriting its sound.
