Biography

Elodie Bouny is a French classical guitarist, composer, producer, orchestrator, and music teacher who has established a significant career within Brazilian music. Born in Caracas to a Bolivian mother and a French father, she grew up in Paris and studied classical guitar at the Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt, later refining her skills in Strasbourg. Relocating to Rio de Janeiro between 2008 and 2020, she immersed herself in the Brazilian musical landscape, earning both a master's degree in music education and a doctorate in creative processes from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

As a soloist and chamber musician, Bouny has performed extensively across Brazil and internationally, winning several awards in competitions such as BRAVIO in Brasília and AV-Rio. She has collaborated with prominent Brazilian artists, including Yamandu Costa—with whom she released the 2024 album Helping Hands—as well as Fábio Zanon, Marco Pereira, and Sérgio Assad. Her work also extends to composition and orchestration, highlighted by commissions from the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, such as the opera Homens de Papel, premiered in 2024.

Deeply integrated into the Brazilian instrumental scene, Bouny has directed the recording of various acclaimed albums and released her own celebrated works, including Terra Adentro and Luares. Her contributions span performance, education, and artistic direction, notably founding the Novas composition competition for solo guitar. Having lived in Brazil for over a decade, she is widely recognized as a franco-brazilian artist who bridges classical and popular guitar traditions.
