Biography

Erasmo Cardoso e Silva, known artistically as Erasmo Silva, was a Brazilian composer and singer born in Salvador, Bahia, on October 7, 1911. His musical career began in Rio de Janeiro, where he moved and initially worked as a taxi driver. It was during this period, in 1935, that he met composer Wilson Batista, an encounter that marked the beginning of his artistic trajectory.

In 1936, he formed the "Dupla Verde e Amarelo" with Wilson Batista, participating in the Argentine orchestra Almirante Jonas and touring Argentina. Back in Brazil, the duo worked on major radio stations such as Atlântica and Record, recording their first album with Columbia. The partnership with Wilson Batista yielded various compositions and performances on radio and in shows.

Throughout his career, Erasmo Silva recorded sambas and marchas, with compositions recorded by artists such as Nelson Gonçalves and Dircinha Batista. His work as a composer and performer contributed to the rich tapestry of Brazilian popular music, especially in the samba and marcha genres, leaving a legacy of works recorded on albums and partnerships with other names of the era.
