Biography
Escarlatina Obsessiva is a Brazilian musical duo formed in 2006 in the city of São Thomé das Letras, Minas Gerais. Composed by Karolina Escarlatina (vocals and bass) and Zaf (guitars, keyboards, and electronic drums), the group stands out for a sound that ranges between post-punk, darkwave, new wave, goth rock, and punk.
Since the beginning, the band has adopted a DIY (do it yourself) style, producing their own albums, music videos, t-shirts, and even a festival called Woodgothic. This creative autonomy has allowed Escarlatina Obsessiva to explore different musical facets, stepping away in more recent works from the gloomy atmosphere that permeated their early productions, as demonstrated on the album "Back to the Land" (2018), described by the vocalist as "our most eclectic record."
Throughout their career, Escarlatina Obsessiva has shared the stage with various national and international bands, such as Sullen Serenade (USA), Dive (Germany), and Plastic Noise Experience (Germany). The duo has also participated in several compilations, consolidating their presence in the Brazilian and international underground scene. Their music, although sometimes misunderstood by part of the public and critics, is marked by lyrical depth and constant musical reinvention.
