Biography

Escola de Escândalo was a Brazilian punk rock band formed in Brasília in 1982 and disbanded in 1986. They were part of the influential wave of bands that emerged from Brasília in the 1980s, alongside Legião Urbana, Capital Inicial, and Plebe Rude. Despite their impact on the local scene, they did not achieve the same level of national success as some of their contemporaries, but they developed a significant cult following. The band's sound was a distinctive crossover of punk, post-punk, and heavy metal, a fusion noted for its unusual nature at the time and the virtuosity of guitarist Fejão's guitar work. The band's name was inspired by the classic literary work "The School for Scandal" by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.

Formed by Bernardo Mueller and Geraldo "Geruza" Ribeiro, both ex-members of the band XXX, the initial lineup also included guitarist Fejão, drummer Alessandro "Itália," and Marielle Loyola on backing vocals. Fejão, in particular, is widely regarded by his peers as a phenomenal guitarist of that era. The band's only national vinyl release was on the compilation album "Rumores" (1984), featuring the songs "Luzes" and "Complexos." These tracks received notable airplay on major rock radio stations across Brazil, leading to invitations for numerous shows nationwide, including an appearance on Rede Globo's "Mixto Quente" program in 1985.

After the band's initial dissolution, members pursued other musical projects. Marielle Loyola went on to join Arte no Escuro and later Volkana. The band experienced a revival in 2010, with Geraldo Ribeiro and Marielle Loyola deciding to record new material, joined by drummer Totoni and guitarist Alexandre Parente, a long-time musical partner of Fejão. Bernardo Mueller supported the revival but did not rejoin the stage. In 2013, Escola de Escândalo released their first album, marking a significant milestone after decades of being a cult favorite.
