Biography

Euclides Amaral da Silva, known artistically as Euclides Amaral, is a renowned Brazilian poet, lyricist, essayist, short story writer, screenwriter, and journalist. Born in the neighborhood of Penha, in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro, on November 1, 1958, Amaral has built a multifaceted career in the arts and culture.

His professional trajectory is marked by a deep dedication to Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). He worked as a musical researcher at various renowned institutions, including the National Library, FAPERJ, PUC-Rio, Uni-Rio, UFRJ, UERJ, FINEP, and CNPq, between 1999 and 2026, a period during which he also worked as a writer and researcher for the Cravo Albin Cultural Institute. This work resulted in the production of entries for the portal dicionariompb.com.br and the "Dicionário Houaiss Ilustrado Música Popular Brasileira." Amaral has also collaborated with texts on MPB for publications such as BackStage and UBC magazines, in addition to newspapers and radio programs.

As a writer, Euclides Amaral has published several books of poetry, short stories, and essays, highlighting "Alguns Aspectos da MPB" (2008), "A Letra & A Poesia na MPB: Semelhanças & Diferenças" (2019), and "Diário de Bordo; Anotações de Cabotagem" (2026).
