Formed in 1983 in São Paulo, within the Conjunto Residencial da Universidade de São Paulo (CRUSP), Excomungados emerged as a significant force in the Brazilian punk rock scene. The band gained notable traction, partly due to an appearance on a television interview program where vocalist Pekinez Garcia (Rafael) made his debut. Excomungados are recognized as pioneers, maintaining a consistent presence with album releases and live performances, steadily building a dedicated following.

Throughout their career, Excomungados have released several albums, including "Pela Última Vez no Inferno" (2003, live album celebrating 20 years) and "Expulsos do Purgatório" (2012).
