Biography

Facção Central is an influential Brazilian rap group formed in May 1989 in the city of São Paulo. Throughout its trajectory, the collective established itself as one of the main exponents of gangsta rap in the country, standing out for its biting lyrics, aggressive stance, and forceful denunciations against social violence, drug trafficking, and the systemic oppression perpetrated by the State and the elites. The group's most prominent and enduring lineup featured rappers Dum-Dum and Eduardo Taddeo, alongside DJs like Garga and Erick 12, with Eduardo serving as the main lyricist responsible for translating the harsh realities of São Paulo's outskirts into verses.

Facção Central's cultural impact generated intense public debates and episodes of censorship, such as what occurred with the music video for the track "Isso aqui é uma guerra", banned by the Public Ministry of São Paulo in 1999 under the accusation of incitement to crime. Despite the controversies and barriers imposed by the authorities, acclaimed albums like Direto do Campo de Extermínio and O Espetáculo do Circo dos Horrores secured significant awards and cemented the group in the history of national hip-hop. In these works, the sound incorporated historical and racial references, drawing parallels between social marginalization in Brazil and extreme contexts such as concentration camps.

Following Eduardo Taddeo's departure in 2013 due to internal disagreements, the group continued under the leadership of Dum-Dum, who led new musical phases and striking partnerships, including collaborations with Racionais MCs. With the passing of Dum-Dum in 2023, Facção Central's legacy came to be carried on by his brother, Nino FC, keeping alive the tradition of resistance and protest through Brazilian urban music.
