Biography

Rafael Lemos Júnior, known professionally as Fafá Lemos, was a renowned Brazilian violinist born in Rio de Janeiro. He established himself as a prominent soloist for Rádio Nacional in 1950 before recording his debut album the following year. His virtuosic playing style helped define an era of Brazilian instrumental music, bridging classical technique with popular rhythms.

Throughout his career, Lemos collaborated with numerous musical icons. In late 1952, under the direction of Paulo Tapajós, he formed the legendary Trio Surdina alongside musicians such as Garoto and Chiquinho do Acordeom. His international exposure expanded significantly when he performed multiple times in the United States alongside the legendary Carmen Miranda, continuing his collaboration with her until her passing.

In 1961, Lemos relocated to Los Angeles, where he spent over two decades abroad before finally returning to Brazil in 1985. His extensive discography includes notable releases on RCA Victor and Odeon, capturing his mastery of the violin across various genres. He left behind a rich legacy that is frequently compared to other greats of Brazilian instrumental music like Jacob do Bandolim.
