Biography

The Caymmi Family is a true dynasty of Brazilian popular music, with a legacy that spans generations and reinvents itself with each new phase. It all began with the patriarch Dorival Caymmi (1914-2008), a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, poet, painter, and actor from Bahia, whose works portrayed the sea, fishermen, and the culture of his homeland, deeply influencing MPB. Dorival Caymmi, the son of Durval Henrique Caymmi and Aurelina Soares Caymmi, was born in Salvador, Bahia, and his work is marked by a deep love for Bahia and the influence of black music.

Dorival Caymmi's children, Nana, Dori, and Danilo Caymmi, inherited their father's talent and pursued prominent music careers. Nana Caymmi is known for her powerful voice and dramatic interpretations, Dori Caymmi is a renowned arranger, classical guitarist, and composer, and Danilo Caymmi is a flutist, singer, and composer, co-author of the classic "Andança". Together, they have frequently performed and recorded, keeping their father's work alive, as in the albums "Família Caymmi em Montreux" (1991) and "Para Caymmi de Nana, Dori e Danilo – 90 anos – Ao Vivo" (2004).

The third generation of the family, represented by Alice Caymmi (Danilo's daughter), brought a new twist to the Caymmi legacy, blending the family's dramatic DNA with electronic and pop elements. Alice, a singer-songwriter, has collaborations with artists such as Pabllo Vittar and Frejat, demonstrating the constant renewal and relevance of the surname in Brazilian music. The family continues to celebrate Dorival Caymmi's legacy through projects such as the tour "Para Caymmi – Dori, Danilo e Alice", which travels across Brazil and offers educational activities, in addition to the release of books and documentaries.
