Biography

Fellini emerged in the city of São Paulo in 1984, founded by Cadão Volpato on vocals, Jair Marcos on guitar, Ricardo Salvagni on bass, and Thomas Pappon on guitar. The initiative came from Thomas, who was already a member of groups such as Voluntários da Patria and Smack, and invited Cadão to write the lyrics and take on vocals, later joining forces with Jair and Ricardo to shape the group's unique sound in the national independent scene.

Throughout its trajectory, the band stood out for moving between post-punk and alternative rock, incorporating elements of bossa nova, samba, and electronic timbres, which were especially striking on acclaimed albums like 3 Lugares Diferentes and Amor Louco. This singular aesthetic exerted a strong influence on prominent artists of Brazilian music such as Chico Science, Fred Zero Quatro, and Marcelo D2, in addition to dialoguing with the production of contemporaries like Arnaldo Baptista and the group As Mercenárias.

After periods of hiatus and sporadic returns — including Thomas Pappon's move to London — the group performed a series of farewell shows in 2016 and reunited again in 2020 for the release of the album A Melhor Coisa Que Eu Fiz. Fellini's discography established itself as a fundamental landmark of 1980s Brazilian independent rock, being celebrated in international compilations dedicated to the country's post-punk.
