Biography

Fernando Castelão Pereira was a prominent Brazilian broadcaster, radio host, sports narrator, producer, and advertising professional, leaving a lasting legacy on Pernambuco's media landscape. Born in Garanhuns, he moved to Recife to finish his secondary studies and initially pursued medicine before abandoning it to dedicate himself to radio. In 1941, he joined Rádio Clube de Pernambuco, eventually establishing himself as one of the leading auditorium presenters in the Northeast of Brazil.

Throughout his career, Castelão became a pioneer in television broadcasting as the host of the live Sunday night show Você Faz o Show on TV Jornal do Commercio during the 1960s and 1970s. The program achieved unprecedented viewership across the state and served as a vital platform for the cultural, social, and political life of Recife, launching the careers of many figures in Brazilian music and drama. In addition to his broadcasting work, he composed frevo-canção songs and authored books documenting the history of radio, theater, and television.

Following the decline of regional television variety shows due to the expansion of broadcasts from Brazil's Southeast, Castelão transitioned into advertising and production while continuing to entertain audiences in theaters and restaurants. He worked alongside notable broadcasters such as Brivaldo Franklin on programs like Esporte em Revista. His enduring impact on Pernambuco's cultural scene cemented his status as a landmark figure in regional broadcasting history.
