Biography
Filipe Catto Alves, artistically known as Catto, was born in Lajeado, Rio Grande do Sul, on September 26, 1987. The son of musicians, Catto grew up in Porto Alegre and began their musical career performing in bars and promoting their work online in 2006. In 2008, in partnership with director João Pedro Madureira, they staged the show "Ouro e Pétala." The following year, they released their first EP, "Saga," independently and online. The EP's title track gained notoriety when it was included in the soundtrack of the Rede Globo telenovela "Cordel Encantado" in 2011, boosting Catto's career nationally.\nIn 2011, Catto signed with Universal Music and released their first album, "Fôlego," produced by Dadi and Paul Ralphes. The record was praised for its versatility and vocal potential, mixing MPB, samba, tango, jazz, and rock. Throughout their career, Catto released other albums such as "Entre Cabelos, Olhos e Furacões" (2013), "Tomada" (2015), "CATTO" (2017), and "Belezas São Coisas Acesas Por Dentro" (2023), the latter being a tribute to Gal Costa. Catto also stands out as a songwriter, with partnerships with artists such as Zélia Duncan and Tiê.\nRecognized for their unique voice, described as a rare countertenor timbre, Catto is praised for their precise tuning and emotional interpretation. Their identity as a non-binary trans artist is an important aspect of their artistic expression, making them a spokesperson for the LGBTQIA+ community in Brazilian music. Catto has shared the stage with renowned Brazilian artists such as Maria Bethânia, Elza Soares, Ney Matogrosso, Chico Buarque, and Gilberto Gil.
