Biography

Flaviola, born Flávio Tadeu Rangel Lira in Recife on December 10, 1952, was a prominent Brazilian poet, singer, and songwriter. He became one of the key figures of the 1970s Pernambucan psychedelic music scene, a movement often associated with the udigrudi counterculture alongside contemporaries like Alceu Valença and Lula Côrtes.

In 1974, he recorded his landmark and only album for decades, "Flaviola e O Bando do Sol," featuring notable musicians of the regional psychedelic landscape such as Robertinho de Recife and Zé da Flauta. Following a decades-long hiatus, he returned to the spotlight to perform at the Festival Abril Pro Rock in 2015 and eventually released his second studio album, "Ex-tudo," in 2020.

His contributions left a lasting impact on Brazilian psychedelic folk and rock before his passing in Recife on June 12, 2021, due to COVID-19. Throughout his artistic journey, he shared cultural spaces with other notable acts of his era, including Ave Sangria and Marconi Notaro.
