Biography

Francisco Carvalho was a renowned Brazilian writer and poet born in Russas, Ceará. His literary career stood out on the national scene in 1982, when his work Quadrante Solar was awarded the Nestlé Prize for Brazilian Literature in the poetry category, receiving praise and analysis from important critics and intellectuals of the time, such as Almeida Fischer.

Throughout his prolific career, he published dozens of poetry books, including striking titles such as Memorial de Orfeu, Rosa dos Eventos, and O Tecedor e sua Trama, in addition to being recognized by the National Library Foundation in 1997 for the work Girassóis de Barro. His cultural relevance led him to occupy a chair in the Ceará Academy of Letters and to have his production celebrated in major publications, such as the collection Memórias do Espantalho - Poemas Escolhidos, released by the Federal University of Ceará.

The work of the poet from Ceará also crossed borders into the universe of popular song, having his poetry set to music by singer and songwriter Fagner on the album Os Donos do Brasil. Francisco Carvalho passed away in Fortaleza, leaving a lasting legacy in Northeastern and Brazilian literature.
