Biography

Frankye Arduini was a Brazilian singer who rose to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of the duo Tony & Frankye. Before forming the duo, Arduini was involved with a band called Top Five, which aimed for a sound similar to the romantic ballads popular during the Jovem Guarda movement. They even released a single in 1967. Arduini's musical journey took a significant turn when he met Tony Bizarro at a club known as a hub for soul music enthusiasts. This encounter led to the formation of Tony & Frankye, a duo that would become pioneers in introducing soul music to the Brazilian music scene.

Relocating to Rio de Janeiro, the center of the national music industry, Tony & Frankye initially worked as a dance band, performing at various events. They eventually transitioned into a duo and gained national attention after appearing on the TV show "Almoço com as Estrelas." Their music, characterized by soul and funk influences, marked a significant contribution to the diversification of Brazilian popular music during that era. The duo released several singles and one self-titled studio album in 1971 before eventually disbanding.

Following the dissolution of Tony & Frankye, both Arduini and Bizarro pursued careers as music producers. While Tony Bizarro achieved notable success and also explored a solo career, Frankye Arduini continued his involvement in music production. The legacy of Tony & Frankye endures as a testament to their pioneering role in bringing soul and funk sounds to Brazil, influencing subsequent generations of artists.
