Biography

Fred Barley is a Brazilian drummer, percussionist, composer, and drum instructor with over two decades of experience in the music scene, primarily in São Paulo and the Paraíba Valley region, but also performing in major Brazilian capitals. A self-taught musician, Barley began his drumming journey at the age of 13, initially in rock bands.

His career gained momentum in 1993 when he performed with guitarist Edgard Scandurra of the band IRA! and joined the band Gestalt, with whom he recorded the album "Musicanativa" in 1994. During this period, he also began formal studies in music theory and drum technique with renowned instructor Maurício Leite. Barley's versatility led him to perform in diverse projects, including the dance spectacle "Out of Time" and participate in the "II Batuka – National Drummers Competition." He also achieved first place in the V Vale do Paraíba Drummers Festival and was recognized in "Modern Drummer Brasil" magazine.

Barley's discography includes work with progressive rock band Compacta Trio, instrumental jazz-Brazilian music group Vehlotrol, and he has also collaborated with artists like Chico Oliveira and Daevid Allen/Gong. His international experience includes a tour with BR Connection (Party of Four) across South America, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. He has also performed with "The Central Scrutinizer Band," a Frank Zappa cover band, and contributed to albums by Edu Leal and Romeu Lepiani.
