Biography

Juberlino Martins Levino, known as Fuba de Taperoá, was a Brazilian singer, composer, and percussionist born in Taperoá, Paraíba, on November 3, 1942. He came from a musical family, with his mother composing carnival music and his father directing a carnival bloco. Fuba began his musical journey at the age of 12, playing the zabumba in local forrós. His early career was influenced by his cousin, Zito Borborema, a successful forró artist.

In the 1960s, Fuba moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he played with various renowned northeastern musicians. He later became the official pandeiro player for Dominguinhos, a legendary accordionist who also produced Fuba's first albums in the 1980s. Fuba released several vinyl records, including "Lembrança de Taperoá" (1981), "Cantando e Sorrindo" (1985), and "Na Pisada do Forró" (1988). In 2000, he released his first CD, "Vai Lá no Meu Forró," which featured artistic direction from Elba Ramalho and production by Dominguinhos.

Fuba de Taperoá's career spanned over four decades, during which he released numerous recordings and collaborated with many prominent artists in the forró genre. He is remembered for his rhythmic creativity and his contributions to the preservation of traditional forró music. Fuba passed away on October 17, 2017, in São Paulo, due to multiple organ failure.
