Biography
Fuloresta do Samba is a musical project led by the renowned Pernambucan artist Siba Veloso, which emerged in Nazaré da Mata, Pernambuco, in 2002. The group is dedicated to fusing traditional rhythms from the Pernambucan Zona da Mata, such as ciranda and maracatu de baque solto, with elements of samba and frevo, resulting in a modern and authentic sound. The original lineup of Fuloresta is composed of traditional musicians from the region, many of whom have long-standing and familial ties to local popular music, perpetuating a rich cultural heritage from generation to generation.
The project has released two notable albums: "Fuloresta do Samba" (2003) and "Toda Vez Que Eu Dou Um Passo O Mundo Sai do Lugar" (2008). The first album, bearing the group's name, explores the essence of regional samba, blending ciranda and other northeastern rhythms, with recordings made in locations evoking nature, such as an old sugar mill. The second work expanded its thematic horizons, addressing social and universal issues while maintaining the rhythmic base and sonic identity of the group.
Fuloresta do Samba has established itself as an important exponent of Brazilian music, especially regarding the rescue and reinterpretation of Pernambuco's popular traditions. Siba's collaboration with other renowned artists, such as Céu, Dengue, and Lúcio Maia, has further enriched the group's musical production, demonstrating its versatility and ability to engage in dialogue with different facets of national music.
