Biography

Furto, also known as F.UR.T.O. (an acronym for Frente Urbana de Trabalhos Organizados), was a Brazilian band founded by Marcelo Yuka, the former drummer of O Rappa, carrying forward the musical style and socio-political ideology that defined his previous group. The band made their live debut at the 2004 Tim Festival in São Paulo, quickly establishing a reputation for their energetic performances and socially conscious lyricism.

Musically, the group blended rock, electronic music, and alternative hip hop, while incorporating heavy influences from dub and rap. This eclectic fusion echoed the rhythmic experimentation of O Rappa during the 1990s, blending diverse musical traditions into a cohesive and impactful sound. Their creative core was formed by Marcelo Yuka, along with Mauricio Pacheco (formerly of Mulheres Q Dizem Sim and Stereo Maracanã), Alexandre Garnizé (from Faces do Subúrbio), and percussionist Jam da Silva, who had previously worked with DJ Dolores and Orquestra Santa Massa.

In 2005, the band released their debut studio album, Sangueaudiência, which was well-received for its sonic depth and political urgency. They also produced several music videos in 2006, including "Não se preocupe comigo", "Flores nas encostas do cimento", and "Ego city", directed by notable filmmakers such as Paulo Lins and Nobuki Ogata. Through their work, Furto left a distinct mark on the Brazilian alternative scene, keeping alive the spirit of urban protest music alongside contemporaries like O Rappa and DJ Dolores.
