Biography

Gabriel Migliori was born in São Paulo on November 8, 1906, standing out as an arranger, conductor, and composer of both classical and popular works, signing the latter with the pseudonym Guito Itiperê. The son of Italian immigrants, in his youth he received encouragement from Mário de Andrade, then director of the São Paulo Department of Culture, who awarded him a prize for the composition "Impressões Brasileiras em Quatro Movimentos". Throughout his career, he worked actively in radio, theater, cinema, and television, having served as the principal conductor of the Rádio Record orchestra and, later, TV Record.

His notable foray into cinema began in 1952, at the invitation of filmmaker Lima Barreto, to compose the soundtrack for the documentary "Santuário", produced by Companhia Vera Cruz. Soon after, he achieved international projection by composing the score for "O Cangaceiro", a film by Lima Barreto awarded at the Cannes Festival that inaugurated the cangaço film genre in national cinema. His grandiose orchestral talent was also present in films such as "Candinho" and the classic "O Pagador de Promessas", as well as in highly popular television programs of the time.

Gabriel Migliori passed away in his hometown on January 13, 1975, leaving a vast legacy in film music and Brazilian broadcasting. He worked alongside important figures of national culture and his work dialogues with that of various arrangers and composers who shaped the country's musical identity, such as Radamés Gnattali and other exponents of our instrumental and classical music. His ability to handle large orchestras guaranteed a sophisticated symphonic treatment for landmark productions in our cinematography.
