Biography

Gang 90 e as Absurdettes was a pioneering Brazilian rock band formed in 1981 by DJ and journalist Júlio Barroso alongside vocalists Alice Pink Pank, Lonita Renaux, Luisa Maria, and May East. Their distinctive musical style blended new wave and beatnik influences, characterized by driving rhythms and prominent female backing vocals reminiscent of international groups like The B-52s.

The group achieved widespread national prominence following their memorable performance of the hit song Perdidos na Selva at the MPB Shell festival in 1981, which was later featured heavily on television and helped usher in the vibrant Brazilian 1980s rock movement. Following the tragic and untimely death of founder Júlio Barroso in 1984, the band entered a second phase under the leadership of vocalist Taciana Barros, releasing further albums such as Rosas e Tigres and Pedra 90 with contributions from notable musicians like Edgard Scandurra and Guilherme Arantes.

After a hiatus of over thirty years, the band returned to the stage in 2019 for celebratory reunion concerts in São Paulo, honoring their legacy in Brazilian pop culture alongside guest artists such as Felipe Catto and Lúcio Maia.
