Biography

Geraldo Blota da Silva, widely known as Geraldo Blota or GB, was born in the municipality of Ribeirão Bonito on October 25, 1925. Throughout his professional career, he stood out primarily as a Brazilian sports journalist, radio broadcaster, and songwriter, maintaining a strong presence in the media during the 1960s and 1970s. Born into a family with a strong communicative and artistic background, he was the brother of Blota Júnior and Gonzaga Blota, as well as the father of actor Blota Filho.

In radio, he consolidated his career working alongside prominent names like Joseval Peixoto at Rádio Jovem Pan in São Paulo, a period during which he also worked at stations like Rádio Tupi and served as director of the Broadcasters' Union (Sindicato dos Radialistas). In television, he had important stints at TV Record and TV Gazeta, sharing the screen with figures such as José Italiano and Dalmo Pessoa. One of the most emblematic moments of his career occurred when he became the first reporter to interview the legendary football player Pelé after the historical milestone of his thousandth goal.

In addition to his expressive contribution to Brazilian communication and sports journalism, Geraldo Blota also ventured into public life, being elected city councilman for two terms and reaching the position of vice-president of the São Paulo City Council. His trajectory was marked by a strong connection with national culture and sports, rubbing shoulders with great exponents of the era and leaving his name etched in the history of the Brazilian media until his passing in January 2009.
