Biography

Geraldo Ferreira da Silva, known artistically as Geraldo do Norte, was born in Parelhas, Rio Grande do Norte, on July 23, 1959. His journey in music and poetry is marked by a nomadic childhood, having left his hometown at the age of nine to join a circus, where he worked various jobs until he was 18. This experience shaped his worldview and artistic sensitivity, which would later manifest in his poems and songs.

After a period away from artistic life in his hometown, Geraldo do Norte moved to Rio de Janeiro at age 22, where he worked in various fields, including mining and civil construction. The opportunity to showcase his work as a poet came through Téo Azevedo, who recommended him to Adelzon Alves. His first major success came in 1986, with the poem "Lindo é você ser minha mulher", set to music by Zé Catimba and recorded by Agepê, achieving great acclaim.

Throughout his career, Geraldo do Norte has released several CDs, such as "Diário de um poeta matuto" (1998), "Diploma de nordestino" (2000), and "Alma de vaqueiro" (2003). In addition to his work as a composer and poet, he also stands out as a radio broadcaster, hosting the program "No Tabuleiro do Brasil", which promotes Brazilian popular music and culture. His work is recognized for portraying the soul of the backcountry and the life of the northeastern man, with a unique poetic language.
