Biography

Geraldo Flach was born in Porto Alegre on August 6, 1945. He began studying classical piano at the age of five, receiving instruction from important masters such as Max Brückner, Roberto Eggers, and Zuleika Rosa Guedes, a path he maintained until he was twenty. His professional debut occurred prematurely at the age of fourteen, when he began playing in dance bands and, later, formed an instrumental trio in the 1960s, in addition to hosting a show on TV Piratini.

Throughout his career, the pianist and composer moved through important musical currents, joining collectives such as the Frente Popular Gaúcha de Música Popular and the MusicaNossa movement, with a strong presence both in Rio de Janeiro and in various other venues in Brazil and abroad. Flach shared the stage with great icons of Brazilian music, consolidating a solid reputation in the instrumental scene and participating in festivals and recordings that earned him awards, such as accolades from the Prêmio Açorianos.

His contribution to Brazilian popular music was marked by an expressive discography and recitals that highlighted his versatility as an arranger and musical producer. Geraldo Flach passed away in Porto Alegre, a victim of cancer, on January 3, 2011, at the age of 65, leaving an indelible legacy for the culture of Rio Grande do Sul and the country, having interacted with artists of national relevance such as Elis Regina.
