Biography

Giane, born Georgina Morozini dos Santos in Bebedouro, São Paulo, emerged as one of the prominent precursors of the Jovem Guarda movement. Spending her childhood in Jaboticabal and Ribeirão Preto, she began her television career at just fifteen years old on TV Tupi. Her early musical journey included working as a crooner for the renowned Orquestra Sul America de Jaboticabal before she recorded her debut work in 1962 with the Chantecler label, featuring the bolero "Por acaso".

Her career reached its commercial peak in 1964 with the massive success of "Dominique," a Portuguese-language version of the song originally performed by the Belgian singer Soeur Sourire. In recording this track, Giane pioneered the use of overdubbing in Brazil to sing her own second voice, helping the song dominate national charts for roughly half a year. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she continued to chart popular releases, including "Estrada do Sol," while earning notable accolades such as the Troféu Chico Viola in 1964 and the Troféu Roquette Pinto as best female singer in 1965.

Having recorded around twenty releases spanning LPs and compact discs, Giane cemented her legacy within Brazilian popular music alongside contemporaries like Roberto Carlos. Although her mainstream appearances diminished over time, she remains remembered for her contributions to early Brazilian pop and television culture. Her lasting impact as a vocalist is still celebrated by enthusiasts of the golden era of Brazilian radio and television variety shows.
