Biography

Gilberto & Gilmar is a Brazilian sertanejo duo formed by brothers Gilberto Gomes de Almeida and Gilmar Gomes de Almeida. Hailing from Rinópolis, São Paulo, they moved to the capital in their childhood and began their musical journey in the 1970s. Their career has been continuous since then, making them one of the longest-standing duos in Brazilian sertanejo music. They gained early recognition by participating in the Silvio Santos program as children and later joined the recording of Tonico & Tinoco's album "26 Anos de Glória" in 1970, where they performed as young versions of the iconic duo.

Throughout their extensive career, Gilberto & Gilmar have released numerous albums, with "Assino com X" being a significant milestone that earned them their first gold record in 1981. They are recognized for their contributions to the innovation and evolution of the sertanejo genre, earning multiple gold and platinum records. Their music often features themes of love, saudade (longing), and the everyday life of the Brazilian countryside, resonating deeply with their audience.

With a discography spanning decades, including over 30 albums and hundreds of songs, Gilberto & Gilmar continue to perform across Brazil. They have collaborated with contemporary artists, such as Zé Neto & Cristiano on a re-recording of "Assino Com X" in 2018, showcasing their enduring relevance. Their enduring success is a testament to their talent, perseverance, and deep connection to the roots of sertanejo music, solidifying their status as icons of the genre.
