Biography

Gilson Uehara Gimenes Antunes was born in Ilha Solteira on March 16, 1972. He had his first contact with the instrument at age ten after attending a performance in a church, thus beginning a path of dedication that led him to complete his studies at the Mário de Andrade Musical Conservatory and to specialize at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in addition to earning master's and doctoral degrees from the University of São Paulo.

Throughout his career, the classical guitarist and researcher stood out for the dissemination of Brazilian concert music, recording albums dedicated to important composers such as Américo Jacomino, Marcus Siqueira, and Roberto Victorio. His commitment to cultural dissemination is also manifested in the creation of expressive events, such as the Ourinhos Music Festival and the Vital Medeiros International Guitar Seminar, in addition to his work as a professor at prominent institutions such as the Federal University of Paraíba and Unicamp.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Gilson Antunes took his art to stages around the world, participating in international festivals and collaborating with various artists, including names like Celina Charlier and Caroline de Comi. His phonographic production spans both solo projects and participation in relevant compilations for the national guitar repertoire, consolidating his prominent role in the recent history of Brazilian classical guitar, alongside instrumentalists such as Yamandu Costa and Turibio Santos.
