Biography

Giovani Cidreira, also known artistically as GIO, is a Black singer, songwriter, arranger, and instrumentalist born in the outskirts of Salvador, Bahia, in the neighborhood of Valéria. His musical career began in 2006 as the lead singer of the band Velotroz, with which he released EPs and an album. In 2014, he began his solo career with the release of his self-titled EP.

In 2017, Giovani released his first studio album, "Japanese Food," which brought him national projection and critical acclaim. The album, sponsored by Natura Musical and released by the Balaclava Records label, toured major festivals and cultural programs in Brazil. In 2019, he presented the album "Mix$take," produced by Benke Ferraz (Boogarins) and released by the RISCO label, marking a new phase with a more electronic and visual aesthetic. This work expanded his performances to shows in Brazil and Europe.

Throughout his career, Giovani Cidreira has explored a multifaceted sound that moves between organic Brazilian music and electronic experimentations, dialoguing with genres such as MPB, rock, rap, trap, arrocha, and pagode baiano. His work is marked by interpretative intensity, originality in his compositions, and a strong connection with audiovisuals and visual arts. Cidreira also stands out for collaborations with various artists from the Brazilian scene, such as Josyara, Céu, and Linn da Quebrada, and for his role as a spokesperson for anti-racist issues.
