Biography
Giras Gerais is a Brazilian band formed in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, in 2007. The group is known for its experimental sound, blending genres such as rock, MPB, and psychedelia. Their music is heavily influenced by iconic Brazilian artists like Mutantes, Secos e Molhados, and Tom Zé, as well as 1970s progressive rock.
The band's members are children of a generation that lived through the censorship of the Brazilian military dictatorship, and this duality is reflected in their aesthetic and sonic identity, which bridges tradition and musical innovation. Giras Gerais has released an EP titled "Cacos de Caos" in 2015, which was followed by a notable performance at Circo Voador. They have also been recognized with the Prêmio Tapias de Aclamação Popular and have made a special appearance on TV Brasil.
The current lineup of Giras Gerais includes Ivo Vargas on vocals and guitar, Júlia Vargas on vocals and percussion, Nando Rocha on guitar, Raphael Buzunga on bass, Elias Rosa on percussion, Ivan Farah on flute, and Ayres d'Athayde on drums. The band's name itself was inspired by a song that was among their first performances, highlighting their connection to their musical roots.
