Biography

Maria da Gl\u00f3ria Pordeus Gadelha, known artistically as Gl\u00f3ria Gadelha, is a Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Sousa, Para\u00edba, on February 19, 1947. From an early age, she dedicated herself to studying music theory, eventually participating in musical festivals while simultaneously pursuing a degree in medicine at the Universidade Federal da Para\u00edba in Jo\u00e3o Pessoa. Her formal music education was further enriched between 1972 and 1974 when she studied musical language at Columbia University in New York City.

Throughout her career, Gadelha achieved notable recognition through various musical contests and festivals, winning a competition on TV Tupi's program A Grande Chance in 1968 and claiming victory at the III Festival de Música Popular Paraibana in 1969. Between 1984 and 1991, she embarked on extensive national and international tours across several European countries, frequently performing alongside her husband, the renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Sivuca.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Gadelha has contributed to literature with published works such as O bailado das sardinhas in 1974. Her discography features acclaimed albums like Bendito o fruto and Ouro e mel, cementing her legacy in Brazilian popular music alongside contemporaries like Sivuca.
