Waldeck Artur de Macedo, better known by his stage name Gordurinha, was a multi-talented Brazilian artist who made significant contributions as a comedian, composer, radio personality, and singer. Born in Salvador, Bahia, he earned his ironic nickname during his youth while working in a circus run by Joval Rios, where the ringmaster bestowed the moniker due to his extreme thinness during an asthma attack. Despite his immense talent, his widespread fame as a comedian often overshadowed his remarkable gifts as a songwriter and musical performer.

Throughout his career, Gordurinha navigated various artistic mediums, including theater tours across Brazil and prominent work in radio broadcasting after moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1952 to join Rádio Nacional. His musical output featured humorous compositions as well as more socially conscious and direct messages reflecting everyday realities, exemplified by tracks like "Eu Sem Caminho" and "Pedido a Padre Cícero". His brilliant repertoire captured the cultural nuances of Brazil, influencing later generations of musicians and cementing his legacy in the nation's rich artistic history alongside iconic figures such as Luiz Gonzaga.

His enduring compositions continue to be celebrated through numerous recordings and covers by celebrated artists of MPB, including Gilberto Gil, Clara Nunes, Elba Ramalho, and the band O Rappa. Among his most famous hits are "Chiclete com Banana", later famously recorded by Gilberto Gil, and "Súplica Cearense". Gordurinha passed away in Rio de Janeiro in 1969, leaving behind a vibrant musical catalog that ensures his memory remains alive in Brazilian popular culture.
